Program overview
Advocate Health is the nation's 3rd largest nonprofit integrated health care system comprised of Advocate Health Care, Aurora Health Care, Atrium Health, and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Advocate Health Care is in Illinois with 10 hospitals and over 400 sites of care in Chicago and its suburbs.
The Advocate Health Care General Surgery Residency is a dual site program at Advocate's two largest hospitals which are ranked nationally in multiple specialties. The Advocate Surgery Residency started in 2022 with our first class of seven categorical and two preliminary interns.
Lutheran General Hospital
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a Level 1 trauma center in Park Ridge just northwest of Chicago with over 650 beds & 20 ORs and performs >20,000 operations a year. ALGH has multiple residency & fellowship programs and trains over 200 residents/fellows & 900 medical students each year.
Christ Medical Center
Advocate Christ Medical Center is a quaternary hospital in Oak Lawn just southwest of Chicago with over 800 beds, 170 ICU beds, 44 ORs, and performs >26,000 operations a year.
ACMC has multiple residency & fellowship programs. It is one of the busiest level 1 trauma centers in the Midwest & has one of the busiest ERs in the country.
