Lifestyle medicine focuses on 6 areas to improve health

As of 2020, the Lifestyle Medicine residency curriculum was launched. Lifestyle Medicine focusses on 6 pillars that includes healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and stress management, substance use and social relationship and connectedness. The curriculum is organized by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Illinois Masonic is only the third internal medicine program in the country that provides this curriculum and allows the opportunity for residents to be double-boarded in both Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine at the end of their training.

The curriculum is divided into 10 modules and includes 40 hours of didactic lectures, 60 hours of application activities and 400 patient encounters including participation/observation in intensive therapeutic lifestyle change and group facilitation activities.
