Cardiac electrophysiology fellowship
Heart rhythm (clinical cardiac electrophysiology) fellowship
The Heart Rhythm (Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, or CCEP) fellowship program Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center is a two-year ACGME-accredited program targeted to those who have already completed an internal medicine residency and general cardiology fellowship.
Fellowship training is clinically oriented, and fellows are actively involved in the day-to-day management of patients with complex arrhythmias. Training emphasizes both pharmacologic and catheter ablation approaches to arrhythmic management as well as device-based therapies such as pacemakers, ICDs and biventricular pacing. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in many active ongoing research projects. The types of patients evaluated include those patients who have:
- Survived cardiac arrest
- Experienced syncope
- Tachyarrhythmias arising from either the upper or lower chambers of the heart
- Abnormally slow rhythms
- Refractory CHF
- High risk for sudden cardiac death
A message from our Program Director:
“I can't imagine being anything other than a heart rhythm physician – the variety and challenges are different every day – the excitement and fascination never diminished – I want to introduce you to this aspect of medicine and a program you’ll always be part of and proud of.”
